This time of year always brings memories of cherished moments with family, friends, and loved ones. My family celebrates Christmas and one of my favorite times each year is the hunt for the perfect Christmas tree. When I was growing up, times were different so it wasn’t too crazy to see a 7 year old girl wandering the woods with her family, carrying a giant ax, ready to help chop down the tallest tree so we could saw off the pretty top. (There is actual video footage of this!) Although, it was never as pretty up close, but from far away they looked pretty good!

After hunting for one all day long, once we (and by “we” I mean my dad and brother, haha) chopped down the tree, it was too late to pick another one – especially since we all had to carry it back through the woods to put it up, string the lights, and decorate it. With too many opinions, it was always a Christmas Miracle that we even agreed on one in the first place. I have probably blocked out the bickering over how it was too fat, too skinny, to bare, or too crooked. (that’s probably for the better!)

Some of my other favorite memories include making my mom sneak festive green and red jell-o shots while cooking (don’t worry, the food was always superb!), and playing games, putting puzzles together, taste testing the gravy (always!), and so many more! I still love going to pick out the tree with my own children now and, whether it’s one pre-cut, or one we go saw down ourselves, we make it into an all day event that I cherish with all my heart. What are some of your Christmas or other Holiday traditions that you enjoy? Shout them out in the comments below because I’d love to hear them!

I hope everyone has enjoyed the holiday season and has a happy and safe New Year’s Eve! Celebrate your joys and triumphs, remember the struggles and hardships you’ve overcome, but don’t let them hold you back or stay complacent – keep reaching for your goals no matter what! Sometimes you may have to change them, but that’s what life is all about! Make it your own and don’t let anybody tell you you can’t do or become the great person you were meant to be.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
